primer pockets are too dirty after firing, something wrong?

Hi, I have been working on reloading my 308. I finally settled at 42.1 grain for 168 gr TSX. It shoots well. However, when I look at the primer pockets, they are very very dirty. Much dirtier than factory load. I checked the primer, no pop up or something after firing.

I was using CCI primers, H4895 powder,cartridge overall length is about 3mm shorter than the maximum.

fwiw, I always find some granules of leftover primer residue when I clean my primer pockets. I just give 'em a twist with the pocket cleaner and carry on.

I get dirty primer pockets too. Like stevebc said, clean them and your good to go for your next batch of reloads.

I found the pocket cleaner not always the best solution, I now only use pocket uniformer, it cleans primer pockets and leave them always at same spec

Ditto. Plus it's easier. Just chuck the uniformer into a power drill and have at it, every time you reload.
