So I clean the primer pockets on my rifle cases as a matter of perfection but up until now I also used to individually clean up every single of my pistol cases. I'm beginning to think it's a waste of time since when other guys use progressive presses, those pockets never get cleaned up in the process. Any comments ??
Thanks

I personally deprime all my brass prior to cleaning, brass that I have not reloaded before gets treated with deburring, and uniforming. That cleans everything up in the process. Once that is done I have never seen a need to bother with it again on those brass.

My routine is sort according to caliber and # of times reloaded, inspect, deprime, tumble, inspect, sort according to headstamp, FL or Neck size, inspect and measure/trim if needed, (weigh my brass for certain rifles), reload!

of the thousands of brass of different calibers (12), i have yet to touch any primer pockets. as long as the holes are clean. in the primer goes. never had a bad one yet.

I load for 12 different calibers, multiple rifles and after the first fire I use the Lyman pocket cleaner tool. Most times it cleans nothing but some times it makes a big difference. After that I never use the tool on them again. But for once fired, I would, but I am sure some shooters never had. Who is right?? Both are right, each to their own, do what you feel comfortable with. I do what works for me based on what I have personally seen and done.

Never clean pistol. Usually clean rifle for calibres that I also uniform pockets on. Sometimes I don't clean rifle either.

plinking pistol and short range rifle ammo i wouldnt bother, if your trying to make high end match ammo and hit a target hundreds of yards away little things like cleaning the primer pocket come into play and it becomes nessesary

I have pistol ammo that has never been cleaned. The decapping pin makes sure there is some sort of flash hole, and as long as the primers stay put, it's all I worry about.
