Primer size

New to reloading.

Planning to reload 9mm and .44magnum

I noticed that handgun primers come in different sizes. What sizes would be used for these cartridges?

The 44 will use large pistol, usually magnum, the 9 will use small pistol. You reloading manuals always specify what primer is used.

I don't have any such manual yet.

I just ordered the Hornady progressive press and dies. Trying to find out what else I need to get rolling.

"...usually magnum..." The primer used has nothing whatever to do with the cartridge name. Has to do with the powder used. Powders used in the .44 Mag don't always need a magnum primer.
Buy a manual and read it. Partial to the Lyman book myself. Has more loads, using more powders and bullet weights than any bullet or powder makers book. Not that there's anything wrong with those, but they only give data for the bullet or powder maker's products. For example, Hornady's book only has data for Hornady bullets(mind you, yo uload for the bullet weight, not who made it). Hodgdon's only has data for Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester powders.
