Well this is a new one. I've had it happen the odd time before, but today I sat down to crank out some 40S&W. The first hundred was one of the most aggravating reloading experiences I've encountered.

Out of those 100, I'd guess 30 to 40 of them had the primer stick onto the end of the decapping pin only to be partially reseated when the case was withdrawn from the die. These are Dillon Dynamic dies that are supposed to "snap" the primer off the end, well it ain't happening like it should. Very annoying on a progressive to say the least.

Anyway, the major culprit seemed to be once fired Winchester, but I did have the odd CCI do it as well. In some cases, it completely punched out the firing pin strike and then reseated the spent primer completely.

I am fairly new to reloading 40, tons of experience with Dillon. I have only loaded about 800 rounds with these dies, I think I had the odd one stick before, but now something seems to have changed? I took the die apart and inspected/cleaned it, everything seems normal.

Looking at a troublesome primer, it seems like the anvil is wrapping itself around the end of the de-capping pin. I am tempted to change the shape of the tip of the pin on the grinder, thought I would check here first and see if anyone else had a similar problem?

I run a Dillon 650 and was having something simular. Mine was sticking and then on the down stroke it would break the little retainer clip. The fix for me was switch out the dillon decapper with a Lee, end of problem.

I had that problem with my RCBS dies so I put the decapping pin in my drill and polished the tip of it with some emery cloth, works great ever since.

That happens occasionally with my Lee dies, but they always get popped off when I lower the ram again.

They'd have to be stuck pretty darn snug on the pin to get reinserted in the primer pocket!!
