Primers

I have bought some Remington small pistol primers and noticed that they. no. 5 1/2 and no.1 1/2 could some one tell me the difference between them.

1½ are regular small pistol primers, 5½ are small pistol magnum primers.

You'll notice on the box of 1½ that they advise against using them in .40S&W, .357Sig and other high-pressure cartridges.

I checked the 1 1/2 box and did see the warning about using them in the 40 S&W so I went on the Remington web site and I can use the 5 1/2 primers.Thanks

Technically speaking the 5 1/2 are not "magnum" primers per se as they are not "hotter" than the 1 1/2 primers. Rather they are a little harder to prevent cratering in high pressure rounds like the 357 Magnum.
