Private First Class Charles Durning RIP

Seen him in SO many films. A FINE actor, never given the recognition he deserved.

Funny, though, didn't know he was The Real Thing until his passing.

Godspeed, Hero.

Not many "warrior" actors left. Does today's Hollywood even know how much they owe these people or even care?
Only afew left, I hope they get the recognition they deserve.

Not too many WW2 or Korea vet actors left. There's a good amount of ones who were in Vietnam, though.

I always enjoyed him in The Choirboys, although not his best work, he made me laugh as Spermwhale Whalen.

I thought the guest role on NCIS a few years back, where he played a WW2 vet convinced he committed a crime in Iwo Jima was one of their top 5 episodes ever. R.I.P. Mr Durning and thank you for service to your country and keeping us entertained.

That was him? Wow.

You're right, that was a great one.

The only other thing I would like to add is that if he was not a famous actor, none of us would have known about his heroic past. He seemed definitely not the type to brag or grandstand regarding his military service. My point is that every day, we lose all types of people with heroic service and sacrifices. More often than not society recognize their efforts only after their passing. Today every nursing home, long term care facility or lodge is filled with those that were of our Finest Generation.
And many of you have made more recent sacrifices that I hope will never be forgotten or take for granted by future generations.

I CANNOT remember what TV show it was, but I do remember being surprised how good a dancer he was. Big belly and all, but light on his feet and clearly the better of the pair.

Yup, a good man is gone. Rest in peace Charles.
