Did a search couldnt find anything reguarding this

If I buy a restricted gun off the EE and its local to me do I have to apply for an att after the transfer is approved or will I get one automatically after the transfer.
I dont belong to a club yet but iam working on that, so I dont have a LTATT.

Thanks

You will need to apply for a STATT to take the firearm home from the post office. If it is shipped directly to your door, you will not need an ATT for it. Until you want to take it to the range, for that you will need your LTATT.

However, the CFOs are on a warpath about club membership, and chances are they'll try to hold your gun or ATT hostage until you show them proof of club membership.

I seen some posts about the transporting from the post office but what if I buy and pick it up from one?

I know I have to wait for the tranfer but will the transfer come with a statt or will I have to apply and wait for it after the transfer?

When you call to complete the transfer you will be asked if you are picking it up locally or having it shipped. If picking up locally can can request a STATT to go to the seller's house to pick it up, it will be included with your transfer and normally is good for a one time pickup and normally 30 days. If you have it delivered you are supposed to get an STATT to go to the post office to pick it up. That's what the CFO tells you if you ask them, i am sure lots of people pick up packages all the time at the post office and don't know what is inside them. ;)
this has been debated many times before everyone has their own interpretation of this so i am sure you'll get many opinions.

The Ontario CFO office will send you a letter when the transfer to you has been approved. You will then have to contact them to get
a short term ATT to get the gun to your home from where the gun will be ( Post office, store, the previous owner's home or ??? ). They
don't know how will get possession of the gun so that's why you have to request the STATT .
As already noted, you may have an issue in that you do not belong to a club. Our CFO wants us to be a member of a club
to complete the transfer.

Thanks thats the info I was looking for, and I have read the debates about packages at the post office.

I went to the barrie gun club lastnight to see about joining but couldnt get in the building (card lock) and none there seemed to want to help or come to the door.

You say you are local to the seller so I will assume you want to pick it up yourself. When the transfer is approved, you ask for a short term ATT (ST-ATT) to transport the restricted from sellers home to your home. As someone has already mentioned, your provincial CFO may not approve the transfer until you show membership for a gun club/range.

As for the postal route, d:h: all I'm going to say is CYA.

Interesting...........In Alberta, when picking up a restricted locally or from a gun store, our STATT is good for one day only. If you fail to pick it up on that day you need to phone it in again and get another one.

They are pretty quick to get it to you though, either faxing or emailing a PDF within the hour of when you phoned.

But I see nothing on the cfo website about needing to be part of a club to have restricted firearms.

I dobt want to start a battle I know what you are saying, just doesnt say anything about it on the website.

Its not written in law so you will not find it. The CFO's have the power through legislation to attach any "reasonable condition" to your license. "Reasonable condition" is determined by the CFO. Don't like it? You are welcome to take the CFO to court. Lately, the various CFO's are demanding proof of range/club membership before approving restricted transfers but not in each and every case it seems.

i purchased a restricted firearm from a store, they applied for the statt for me, told me it was good for 30days so i could wait to pick it up if i wanted.
also don't forget to bring a trigger lock and a locking case for the ride home.

i am going to join a range this weekend .. so you dont have to be a member to purchase a restricted. but to shoot it , thats another story, you will need range membership for that
and the range will apply for your ATT once you have passed their safety course and any probation ect, if needed.
