I have a 1901 M96 Swedish mauser on the way and I picked up a couple of boxes of Privi Partizan 139 grain FMJ ammo for it. I am just getting into the 6.5x55 caliber and have a few questions.

Can an old M96 action handle this ammo?

Is the Privi stuff loaded to higher pressures for the newer production rifles?

Can any one recomend a factory load that is safe for the older mausers?

I intend to use the gun as a range/target gun so don't require a hot hunting load.

Thank you.

The older Swedish Mausers where made from super tough Swedish steel and proof tested to 160% maximum pressure. I have fired about 40 of the PRVI FMJ's through my 1900 M96 without issue and hundreds of handloads at max or near max powder charges.

For best accuracy many of the old M96's actually prefer hotter loads with some guys loading around 105% maximum powder charges without any ill effects. I haven't tested above 100% of published data for handloads but the accuracy decreases if I decrease the powder charge from max any.

Thanks LUTNIT,

I will be reloading once I get a few boxes of once fired brass for it. I see that the Serria reloading manual used a M96 action for their tests so I have a good starting point. In the mean time I'll use the Privi factory loads to sight in.

Thank you.
