I have a Garand on the way and I am wondering if this ammo is safe to shoot? I am going to reload my own but I can find no brass locally. So I figured order some of the Privi ammo and then I will have brass as I've used it before and it seems good quality.
I also read IMR4895 is a suitable powder.
This particular Garand is a weimajack offering and has a brand new barrel. I would like to keep the wear to a minimum as all I am going to use it for is shooting paper.
How light can I load?

My mix master parts gun with criterion barrel likes 47gn of IMR 4895 (I started at 44) under a Hornady or Sierra 150gn HPBT bullet seated at 2.9” OAL. I trim to min and chamfer, don’t crimp and run Remington 9 1/2 large rifle primers. 2700ish FPS (depending on brass), cycles the rifle properly gets ok accuracy. I’ve read that the 4895 recipie for the M2 ball load is well above that but I don’t have enough experience with the gun to say. As always, start low and work up.

MILSPEC propellant for the M1 Garand is IMR4895. H4895 and IMR4064 are all suitable. The reason why these propellants work safely and reliably is because their burning rate generated the correct gas port pressure to cycle the Garand action. As a bonus they also produce excellent accuracy.

A lot of commercial .30-06 ammo is loader with slow burning powders in order to produce higher velocity, and these are not appropriate for the Garand. I have no idea of what propellant is used in the Privi ammo.

I've shot thousands of reloads in many M1 Garands using the above propellants and 150-168 grain bullets with excellent results and never saw a reason to look further.

Thank you for the replies. I will follow this advice when I begin reloading.
I never knew that the IMR4895 was originally specified for the Garand. That is interesting.
