Some people will stoop to new lows...
From the Minden Times; Some one came into Keith Cunningham's deer camp and stole the first deer harvested by his son, a member of the Canadian Forces, who has little time to hunt. Keith runs the MilCun Marksmanship Complex near Kinmount, Ontario. The first thought was that a bear, wolves or coyotes took it. But there were boot tracks and ATV tracks showing. They could also see where it was dragged over a fence.

deer

I witnessed a deer been stolen by 3 guys in the kootneys in the mid 80's, i was just comming off a hill with a buck i shot and i heard a truck pull up the road to someones camp and i saw them cut it down and throw it in the back of their truck. They were cursing and yelling at each other so i thought it best to stay out of it and just identify the truck to the hunter who had the deer, the guys had me believe they had been drinking by the slurring in their voices. They were eventually dealt with by police after the hunter caught up with them and they pulled a rifle on him, scarey to say the least all over a deer, it's hard to believe what some #######s will do.

I have been worried about asses like that whenever I have had to leave a big deer in camp..A camp near mine had the tenderloins cut out of a moose that was hanging in 1988,Bunch of crap.Hope they got some good pics anyways.

At the camp I hunt at, we hang em back in the trees so they can't be seen from the road.

SC..........................

It boggles the mind what some people will do for a deer.
Theft is about as low as you can go. We've had two stolen from us over the years. Under different circumstances.
Both were taken from the kill site before we got to them. under ontario law, that's legal, but it doesn't make it ethical.

Same thing had happend to my dad many years ago. Had a bear hanging in the tree away from camp, came back to get it on the way home and found the rope had been cut and no bear. I see great pride in going back home and showing family and friends and when they ask who got it they can say "none of us, heres the great part, we stole it from someone who actually was dumb enough to put in the time and energy hunting it" Almost makes ya sick to no end.

I would think that if one brought some galvanized or plastic covered wire or fence material and wrapped it around the hanging deer and pad locked it to something solid, could make it very difficult to steal the deer ?

Next time, hunt further away from big cities ?

Ballsy and incredibly stupid to steal from someone you know is not only armed but capable of making a decent long shot. Who the hell would even consider stealing from a hunter's camp, that is beyond my comprehension.
