I recently puchased a NO.4 MK1/2 rifle, i want to give all the woodwork a coating of linseed oil, but having issues removing the forestock, that small cross screw that is just about the trigger housing , it keep turning in the little nut on the opposite side of forestock,..how do i stop this nut from turning while using my scew driver to undo the screw.....?

On my 1950 Mk.2 I had to cut a slot in the tip of the screwdriver like below.

Or if you have a small set of snap ring pliers that the tips will fit in the slot you might get by if the screw isn't too tight.

And the last resort is very carefully using a tooth pick apply super glue to the edges of the keeper nut, being carful not to get any super glue on the threads of the screw. This might hold the nut and keep it from turning, I have done this before using thin grade super glue for balsa models.
