Problem with 30-06 load- advices needed

I just finished loading some 30.06 for trial with my 700. At one time I had four 30.06s( now only two) plus my two son's 30.06s.I Factory Crimped them all. I have seen crimped various loads in factory rifles go under an 1/2". No, I don't beleive it's the crimp. In fact with a long throated 700,it's a he** of a good idea. The crimping does what seating to the lands does, evens out the release pressure.Make sure you are not over doing it,leave half of the crimper spacing when you are all the way up.

A full case of RL-22 is a gamble,it my be the greatest, then again it may not work worth a sh**,I have heard both results. Some load weight of RL-19 is more of a sure thing in a 30.06.But with 180s ,the bit slower than IMR 4350,H-4350 has always been a steady performer in all rifles.

My guess would be a bullet not seated square. That's where I would look.

I haven't used the 180Accubond,but the 338 225 is very accurate.Pick up a box of Hornady 180 Spire Point=(flat base),they are the cheapest good 180s,to try as well. You can use the rest for practice "Bang".

I use 55 gr IMR 4350 with 180 I/B very nice and the use of a Lee Factory crimp die tightens things up a bit. Remember this die does not need a cannelure to do it's job. The nice thing about slower powders is they fill the case, does Varget have a lot of air space in an 06 case?

If I'm using a bullet without a cannelure, I just apply a very light crimp with the Factory Crimp Die. Not enough to put a dent in the bullet, but enough to make sure that all the case necks are snugged up consistently across the batch.

Gunsmith had IMR 4350 in stock. I made some ammo from starting load to max load both crimped and uncrimped.
If weather is good, I plan to test in Saturday....
Results to come soon

I went to the range this afternoon and I tested my loads.

1-Like everyone told me, IMR 4350 work a lot better.
2-Lee Factory crimp die doesn't work well with Nosler accubond bullet. I tried with crimp and without. Everytime I crimped, I got 4-5 inches group and 1 1/2 inches without crimping with the same powder charge.

Thanks to everyone for your help :D

Glad to hear things have worked out for you. 4831 has a similar burning rate to 4350 but I've always got better accuracy with 4350. I crimp the straight wall rifle cases like 45-70, 458wm & 444 if the bullet is designed for it but all the bottle neck cases, no.
