Problem with A-bolt target single set trigger

I own an A-bolt Target rifle. I have issues with the single set trigger; I can't get comfortable with it.

The primary trigger is too heavy and althought it says it's adjustable in the manual, I can't get it light enough. The adjustment screw doesn't seem to do anything.

Does anyone know anything about these triggers? I like the feel of the primary trigger, just want to try to get it to 2 lbs. or so.

I doubt you will be able to get the primary pull that light without working the sears. Most single set triggers have a safe primary pull (not super light) but usually the set trigger is adjustable down to unsafe 2 ounces. Set at 6 ounces would work well. I have not seen this new trigger from Browning.

Thanks for the reply Guntech.

Apparently you're not the only one who hasn't seen this trigger. I called Browning Canada and they put me in touch with the fellow doing their service and tech support and not even he has seen one yet. There is not much on the internet about it either.

The problem is two-fold. I am not used to, and don't like the ultra-light set trigger. A second issue which I noticed and have also read about on a american forum unfamiliar to me (google search) is that the lock time is longer when using the set trigger. Maybe this is common on single set triggers, I don't know. Let me explain; when using the set trigger you push it ahead. When it breaks, the trigger swings back away from your finger and from what I can tell, actually releases the sear back in the position it's in when in primary mode. So there is a split second delay while the trigger swings back. It feels terrible to have the trigger leap back almost half an inch from your finger, and it results in some bad shots, at least with me running the beast.

I dunno what to do with it. I may have to switch it out to a normal a-bolt trigger with a timney lighter spring kit that I've read about. That's probably going to end up costing me close to $300.

After taking the action out of the stock and looking closely, I see that the adjustment screw isn't in contact with anything. It appears as thought a piece may be missing.

Browning can't even provide me with a schematic of the trigger group. They also tell me the rifle is discontinued.

Their smith (who is a solid guy and is trying to help) has never seen one and has no schematics or even a manual. He's asked me to take pics of the trigger group and send him a pic from the manual where it explains how to adjust the trigger.

*sigh - I knew I should have got a 700 or a savage... ;)

Here is a pic of the adjustment screw in question and the space beneath it. I figure I'm beating a dead horse here but I'm getting nothing back from Browning as of yet so what the heck.

That is odd that the screw is supposed to adjust the primary trigger pull. I have a number of single shot rifles with single and double set triggers and the set screw only adjusts the pull when the trigger is set. The trigger also should not jump when it lets off. A properly functioning set trigger feels the same as a good single trigger but much lighter.

I re-read the manual. It claims the set trigger is factory set at 9-14 ounces and not adjustable. It says that the primary trigger ranges from 4-6 pounds from the factory and can be adjusted. 4-6 lbs. is still too heavy for me, but I thought I would try it since I hate the feel of the set trigger.

The way things are going, I may end up getting a normal trigger group (if I can find one) for an A-bolt and then buy a timney spring kit. Sucks...but I got time so I'm not going to rush into anything until I hear back from the Browning Smith in Quebec.
