so finally I get a go ahead from the better half to get a .22 rifle. Her only restriction is "get a new one, I dont want to hear anything about new stock/parts"

I was looking for somthing in bolt action, since most my hunting guns are that,
relativly cheap, good looking, that can be used for paper and small game without braking my bank account

I settled for Savage Mark IIF, off I went to local store to check it out and ................................ man! thats the fugliest stock I have ever seen, the action was stiff and the mag seemed like something soviets would roll out durring war time shortages!

trying to make the best of my time my eyes cought remmy597, damn that was one sweet little thing, and the right price, I can even look beyond that afful grey stock, it felt bit heavier, but the sight seemd better

now Im desperet, I like the look and feel of the 597, but Im looking for something in bolt action, something that feels like a full size gun, I wished I checked the winchester wildcat target/varmint, its bit out there with the price but....

ps;CZ is out of question, if I had that much money for a .22 I would have bought .220 or other .22centerfire

Well for a cheap and accurate bolt gun, check the Norinco JW-15 at Frontier Firearms for $179.00.I have one and am quite pleased with it.If you change you mind and think Semi-auto I love my Marlin 60,for $168.00 from S.I.R pretty darn good deal and a blast to shoot Good luck

You've made a good decision getting the 597. The stock can be refinished easily and later you can buy a VQ Target Trigger and/or VQ Extractor to modify your rifle.
One thing you have to remember is that you can't get the nicest finish on low budget guns. The good news is, you CAN get accuracy. That's why Savage, Marlin or Remington are all good choices. I'm not talking about the 10/22 because I'm sure others will chime in with that.

let me clarify a bit, I havnt pic the rifle yet,

what Im looking for is a gun that will feel like a full size rifle

and again, Im sure CZ is a great rifle but if I wanted to drop $500 on a .22 rifle I rather get a centerfire .22,

I dont compete, Im not a member of a gun club, this is a gun for my own satisfaction, so I can go "anywhere" and happily plink away in the field and bush, wheter it be pine cones, paper trgts or other vermin

You might want to reconsider a nicer, used bolt action. Its hard to wear out a .22 and VERY FEW guns are made the way they used to make them!

Semiauto .22's are a pain in the ass IMO.

now another question,

how much of a difference between .22LR and .22mag?
Im eyeboling a nice deal I may go for, and I would like to have an option of clean kill up to 200m(?)
