I bought a Maverick 88 Security from Cabela's a couple of weeks ago. Just had a chance to take it to the range yesterday. All goes well until the 14th round, the it goes Click instead of boom. Now it doesn't fire anymore, it cycle well and i can pull the trigger and ear the hammer fall but the firing pin don't move. It doesn't mark the primer.

I disasemble it today just to have a look and it seems that the firing pin is jammed in rearward position. Does anybody have an idea for an easy cure so i do not have to pay to ship the gun to the other side of the contry for service...

Thanks

I had the same problem with mine. Mine was a little more gradual. It would go bang, bang, click, bang, bang, bang, etc...Huge pain the a$$ especially since I bought it as a hiking gun. It turned out it was the trigger group. More specifically the sear wasn't being caught where it was supposed to be caught because the notch was not square cut enough and it would slip by. I fixed it myself (I am not recommending that anyone do the same...) with a small file.

I would take it to a gunsmith or send it back if it is that new.

Good luck.

I bought one about 5 months ago and havn't fired it yet. I better get out and try it out soon. I sure wouldn't want it to missfire when I really needed it. Thanks for the heads-up.

I had two suffer out of battery detonations that blew up the chamber, sprayed shrapnel all of over the place and break the action bars. As far as I'm concerned, the Maverick 88 is a wholly unsafe design. It is only pure luck that neither I nor my brother did not suffer permanent damage. I'd return it immediately and go buy a Remington or Winchester.

There are a lot of Mavericks out there that fire perfectly every pull of the trigger. There are good ones and bad ones, but I don't think the original post was started just to bash these shotguns. Use the warranty!
