I was making test loads for one of my .223's with a new set of RCBS dies, when I noticed that when seating a Hornady 60 gr plain based, hollow point bullet, the bullet canted & snagged on a slight "lip" in the die causing the bullet to distort. This did not happen when loading boat-tailed bullets, as they seem to sit straighter in the case. Anyone else have this problem?

Your seating stem is not fitting your bullet nose.

I went through this exercise and the bullet fits fine. If you look at the photo, you'll clearly see that the die is shaving some copper off of one side only of the bullet, indicating that the bullet is canted at the point where it meets that slight lip in the die body. You can feel the resistance in the press handle when you reach that lip. I'll try to take a photo of the inside of the die.

Have you tried running a qtip around the inside of the die to see if it catches on a burr? Might be something you can just clean up by sanding/polishing?

I would also second swabbing out the die and cleaning it.

If it is new it might have gummy assembly lube inside and could be holding onto bur it something

I take my new dies apart and hit with brake clean then ballistol.
