Hey guys,
So I've got a bit of a problem with my rifle... I decided to switch from the standard two piece weaver bases that came with the gun to the Leupold QR system because I have different scopes for different seasons and I love the rifle so I use it for anything. Savage Model 25 Lightweight Varminter - T in .204.
Anyways... upon trying to take out the first screw of the rear base the top part of the screw (just maybe about a third to a half of the head) broke clean off. Naturally I dropped the gun off at a Gunsmith so that they could deal with it better than I could.. this is when I started researching bases and it turns out the reason the M25 comes with bases is because no one makes aftermarket ones for it and they are not interchangeable with other models... at this point I called Savage to order some new ones and they tell me they cannot be shipped over the boarder. So I tracked down their "Canadian warranty" location and they told me they don't have any in and don't know when they'll have any. Pretty much both parties told me to go #### myself, which is pretty annoying in itself because Savage claims to have great customer service. There's also no way in hell I'm sending my rifle away for $4 bases.
Do you think that I should still try to get the broken screw out and replace it? Or just shoot it as is and see what happens. I'm thinking it will be OK because only a small part of the head broke off... also, I should mention all the screws are RED loctited in. I thought I'd never be taking them off... but lesson learned lets not get into that one.
Thanks for taking the time to read and any suggestions are appreciated.
