I have a Beretta O/U and when I shoot heavy handloads the safety comes on after the first shot. It does not do this when shooting lighter loads. Can this be fixed easily or do I need to take it to a smith.

safty

Pull the butt stock and you will see underneath the top strap a small yoke type spring which is generally held in place by a screw, this may have become loose allowing less resistance on safty travel. There is also a chance that the spring could stand a slight bend downward so as to put more tension on the small cross pin that rides against the spring.D.H.

Put some grease on the end of a screwdriver and insert through the slits in the pad (there are typically philips head screws contained inside). The grease helps prevent the screwdriver from chewing up the rubber.

Remove the screws and the recoil pad will come off, exposing a hole with a screw or bolt in it. Using a long slot screwdriver (or extended socket as the case may be) carefully back out the bolt and remove the stock.

This will leave the innards of the action exposed so you can then follow DH's instructions.

Good luck.
