Does anyone else recognize this piece of broken plastic???

Indexer.jpg

It is the indexer on the Dillon XL650.

I have broken 3 of these in the time that I have owned the press, and I'm not all that happy about it. I bought one new one in a parts kit, got one free from Dillon, and bought 3 more outright.

I have recently done the shell plate bearing upgrade and that seems to be working OK.
(I bought the parts directly from McMaster Carr, but it looks like these guys have made a business out of reselling those same parts. http://hitfactorshooting.com/Shellplate-Bearing-Kit-for-Dillon-XL-650-US-Only-HF-XL650-BEARING.htm)

The plate indexes nicely, actually, nicer than it did before. But, I still broke this very expensive plastic "shear pin".

I don't really want to take apart the whole top end of the ram to replace it tonight, so I'll just whine about it here and write a post and see if anyone has any clever ideas about why this keeps breaking...

I expect that most people will say "your plate is too tight". It probably isn't. It is very easy to index the plate by-hand, any looser and the plate will be sloppy again, and all of the appropriate places have white lithium grease on them (the plastic indexer, the ramp that it rides on, the bottom of the plate, the outside of the big bolt in the middle, etc...).

Any other ideas??

(I did break one because the set screw on the central bolt wasn't tight enough and the bolt got too tight. The press indexes normally now.)

(The only "kludge" with the new bearing set is the bent wire that knocks the completed round down the shoot isn't all that well adjusted.)

Thanks!
