Hello all. Need some help with my load all. Please save the buy another press. My problem is that when i push the lever to drop powder it does so but also drops a few lead shot with powder 10-12. So when i weigh out the powder it is 3-4 grains short of powder than i wanted. Then when i push the lever the other way to drop shot, it does but a tiny bit of powder is in shot. Anyone have this problem and know a fix?

If i loaded the shells this way and shot them what problems might i have if any?thanks for the help.

Have you taken it apart to see if something is broken? The load all has lots of plastic, things get dirty and can cause trouble. On my Lee powder measure, the plastic disk will stick especially when cold, I take it apart and wax it and the metal then buff it out, slides much better.

Are you sure that you have the powder and shot bushings in the bar? I suspect, without pulling my Load All apart, that the only way to have shot mixed in would be if the bushing is not in place. Not a good idea to have shot mixed in, not that it is likely to be catastrophic, but it indicates a problem with the loader and there might be a problem with the load.

I do have the bushings in place but i will take apart to make sure all is clean and not being jammed up. My first time using it and is straight forward for use, except for the mystery shot in the powder. Thx for the responses.

A more likely scenario is that you have accidentally drop some shot in the powder hopper when filling it. So far as the powder drops weighing less, most bushing charts tend to be on the light side, this is why you verify drops with a scale and swap bushings accordingly to get the charge weight you're looing for.

I have a LA2, and have used it a lot. I cannot fathom how shot and powder would get mixed together like that in the form of some sort of machine defect. If it is that machine doing it, something is very wrong.

What does happen with many reloading machines sometimes, is when they are new, things don't flow completely. They have a break in time, if you will, before things will flow smoothly and completely.

It's common for powder to get hung up in the drop tube, shot however seems less likely because of it's weight. It isn't unheard of from machines like that to have a light coating of grease or oil on the parts that might be just enough for a few balls to stick in the drop tube.

I would try to rule this out. One thing you can do, is give it a tap after you've dropped whatever to make sure everything has passed the dropped tube. It could be possible that a little bit of powder is getting stuck, then push out with the shot, and a little bit of shot is getting stuck, and push out with the next powder.

Meanwhile, the LA2 is a great machine in my opinion. Great way to get into shotgun reloading on the cheap, and I've been able to do a lot of different kind of loading with just the one kit. You may find that it's not the most straight forward. While other high end machines, like MECs, allow you to dial in all the setting precisely to get the results you want, the LA2 requires you to "feel" things out. Getting a great crimp often relies on how much pressure you put into the pre crimp. Too much and you've ruined your crimp.
