Hey all,

hope someone can help with the issue I'm having. I've used my Lyman Universal Trimmer with mostly .308 cases so far, with no issues. I'm now trying to do .223 cases, and it won't grip them strong enough. When I try to trim with the drill the cases just spins with the drill, or pops out of the trimmer. I've tried adjusting the head shaft location to get a better grip on the case, but with no improvement. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I have the same trimmer but it's still a manual and had the same problem. Try tightening the hex nut on the end if you haven't done so. I ended up just taking the chuck head apart and gave it a good cleaning.

yup-rotate the head so the locking lever has enough throw to tighten up on the smaller case.
Make sure you are trimming unprimed brass so the ball can center the case and be sure the little catches are moving freely and are contacting the rim evenly.

Clean the cashead chuck out well, and as said before, rotate it for a firm grip. I have done thoudands of 223, and FB brass on mine using the powered cutter head, no problems.
