Found myself a pretty Synthetic/Stainless Remington Model 7 BUT noticed something rather alarming when giving it an initial cleaning

If the safe is on and you recock the action and then move the safe to the off/fire position it fires the action

Is this normal? Can this be fixed? Do I have a dud on my hands?

Model Seven has a similar trigger to the m700, and can be set so low that if you breathe on the rifle it will go off.

A rifle's trigger pull weight should not sacrifice its safety

I'd bet this M7 you have Nester doesnt have its factory trigger weight setting

Bought it 2nd hand...

How does one go about fixing this problem? Gunsmith or can I do it?

In that case I would guess that someone was playing with the sear adjustment trying to lighten the trigger pull. Take it to a good gunsmith and have him reset everything.

ahhhh yes, I have no clue about the sear, I never touch that screw on any of my Rem triggers...

if you cant get it to safely engage/disengage the safety after making the trigger pull & overtravel heavier, then take it to a gunsmith like 'Boo said :)

Hey Tod!

BTW, How come you have that pretty avatar on this site but wanted to use that "other" one on HuntShoot? LoL ;) Damn that was scary!

If you have to ask I would recommend a gunsmith do it.

I am sure Rick at Alberta Tacticle Rifle in Calgary can help you. If not mail me the trigger assembly and I can fix it for you. Email me if interested.

Thanks for the heads up and offer to fix it. Going to take it too
D. Henry http://www.dhenrygunmakers.com/ as he's 20 minutes outside my door.

Won't do it myself as I would prefer a professional to fix it as it will be used by my kids.

Thanks everyone for your help once again :)
