problem with safety on norinco m4

The change lever rotates past the safe position and the fire position and wont lock into place..the change lever will rotate freely about 300 degrees in total.The action will still fire when in the semi position.I take it a part is missing on the safety lever or trigger group somewhere?
I got this used and havent taken it apart..it worked fine when I first got it .

Sure you didn't maybe take the grip off?

The safety detent fits into a hole drilled through the bottom of the frame, and is retained by the grip.

10,000 cool points to you sir !! I did take the grip off and changed it for another..I will reassemble it again ..correctly this time.
