This s**t is giving me a headache.

So with out going to much into detail, I used to have a peace bond issued to me, it ended last july. I took the Rpal and NRpal course at the Sh**ti*g E**e in calgary (sept). Because I have a strong knowledge of firearms safe practices/info I was recommended to take the one day course opposed to the two day course for complete newbs.

I passed the course and did very well on all tests. I choose to wait before submiting my application to the cfc as to not immediatly apply after the peace bond expired(I know I did not have to but life was very busy aswell). My paper work was listed as recieved by mirimichi the last week of feb. Minor issue with a missing signature delayed the process about 2 weeksf:P:2:. Yesterday was supposed to be the very last day before I could talk with the Cfo (alberta) to finalize. Cfo said No . Not until I take the "full" Course.

Apparently Because I "challenged" the course, By only doing the one day and not the two day. Now I had spoken with the Sh**ti*g E**e and the course is going to be re-taken as per Cfo's requirements and the cost will be covered by the Sh**ti*g E**e. Which made me slightly less of extremely P.O'ed. (BTW thanks JR :) )

Common sense would tell me that passing the tests with a damn near perfect score, would mean just that. And that the two day course would be taken if I knew nothing/ close to nothing. And that having been issued a peace bond did not completly clear my mind of all previous knowledge.

How ever im thinking that something is Fu*ky. Any thoughts?

to me it should not matter if it is a 1 day or 2 day course it is the same materail compacted into 1 day. i opted for the home study course went in did the tests and passed and sent the info out the same day and still waited for a long time about 6-8 weeks i think. they should not have done that to you i would make a complaint and have your instructor speak with them and save you time maybe. but good luck and stay safe

I know it can be expensive, and times are tough for a lot of people right now... But I opted to take a full training course vs. challenging the exam (even though I could have), to cover my ass. Covering your ass is the name of the game.

Given the hostility towards guns and gun owners by the government and police, it makes sense to do everything 100%. They are looking for the tiniest excuse to deny you your PAL. Even if you don't need to take the course, if taking the course makes things go smooth, it is worth it.

I am not saying it is fair, or right, or that we shouldn't fight it politically... but given that the slightest innocent mistake can take away your ability to legally own firearms (or even in some cases, could land you in jail), any of this stuff should be approached with extreme caution! Saying "Yes, I took a full safety course" will not only help with the PAL application process, but could help you if there are other legal problems in the future.

Obviously, this advise is more for other people who read this as opposed to you, because you are already booked to take the course.

I think the cfo had a fight with the wife and lost and took out on you! LOL That sucks, but at least your instructor is helping out. Only one extra day. Just think of all the good plinking time to come! Giggity!

See that is just it, I was not told that there was no difference between the one day and the two day. There was no difference in price, and when I asked I was told that a two day was needed if I knew nothing.

I know it sucks.......but I think you'll have to bend over and take this one.....ouch.....

(Especially if that was his only issue - two day course over the one day)....now if after you take the two day course and it comes back a no...............:kickInTheNuts:
