I recently purchased a used but very good condition ss pursuit pro and I am using lee minnies and 250gr real bullets cast from pure lead. when I took the ml to the range and started shooting the first 3 would hit the center of the paper and the rest would be all over the place and some would not hit paper at all. I was using 50 prydox and have used other loads to see if I could improve my shooting but I could not keep all the hits in the center area of the target. I would rather use my own cast bullets for hunting and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be? thanks

Are you saying it holds good for 3 shots without cleaning, and then goes haywire? I would say from a hunting perspective, that I could live with that and not worry about it. It does seem strange though that it doesn't get progressively worse but rather goes from good to horrible.

Did you cast the bullets, and are they all consistent?

Is your loading method/ram rod pressure consistent while seating bullets?

You've tried different amounts of powder to find the best load? Different bullet weights?

I have cleaned after every shot and the barrel is rather clean. I cast my own bullets and have shot them in my Thompson center impact with no problems at all. I made my own beeswax lube and it works perfect. I am the same pressure when I load and I have used different loads, it seems that 60gr of powder seems to be better than the others.

Well it seems that you are doing everything right. Not being familiar with those guns. Would the Thompson have deeper rifling and handle the REALS better and the Traditions have shallower made for plastic sabots?? On a side note.. My friend finally figured out why his Traditions was all over the place... Loose front sight. Sometimes when shooting a lot things heat up and move around. Maybe give her a good going over. Good luck

I have never put the reals in my Thompson, just minnies and they shoot very good. the sights are solid. will have to giver it a going over to see what may be doing this.

A thought is barrel heating up, I know my Encore will not feel hot to the touch but after 2-3 shots over 10 minutes it will start to climb. Leave it for a bit, shoots just fine. If the gun is new to you use a solvent that will dissolve plastic. (Sweets 7.62) If the previous owner shot sabots and never cleaned for plastic heating will effect things as the barrel warms and not for the better. Other than the dreaded "F" word it seems a strange problem. Good Luck

the barrel is nice and shinny with no signs of melted plastic. when my tc impact gets warm the shots will stray but the ss did not seem to be that hot when the shots went astray. I may have to get another bullet mold and cast some different bullets to see if that makes a difference.
