I bought a used MEC 600 Jr reloader to reload 28ga shells and I am having problems with stage 5 the last crimp. For some reason it just mashes the crimp and ballons the bottom of the shell. I think the crimp is set to low that's why it crushed the shell but I am not sure why the crimp doesn't even close on the last stage. The crimp stays open and just seems bevelled inwards. Any suggerstions? Maybe the crimp is defective? If there is anyone in Ottawa who is willing to come over to my house to get things gooing for me I would be more that happy to buy a case of beer or whatever your pleasue may be. I live in the west end of the city. Cheers.

Save your beer it is a three minute adjustment
First set the start crimp low enough to close the case to where the hole is about the size of a lead pencil, or a tad smaller. If your press has the metal dies, then adjust by shiming the die down as necessery. If it has the zytel dies, then adjust with the mounting bolt.

Next, move the cam up at least 2/3 rds. of the way or maybe more, and then set the crimp depth. Crimp depth should be approx .050 in depth. Once this is set, then adjust cam down in small increments, to where it puts a slight taper, (not a heavy one) on the end of the shell.

This should fix your problem.
