Last week went out to look at a Mossberg 500 3 barrel camo combo from Sail and the salesman explained they were on back order due to rusting within the gun. Also now Al Flaritys has them on back order as well I wonder if for the same reason. Anyone out there hear anything more or had problems themselves?

are you talking about the 3 bbl combo with the dipped plastic camo?
if so yes that's always a issue , much like car if the guns are rusting before you apply the finish, the finish will lift and peel.
Mossberg do a fast and dirty job with the camo dipping, but its a cheap gun.

Yes that is the gun I'm referring too. He didn't mention what exactly was rusting that could be what he was talking about. I was more concerned if it was rusting internally diminishing function. Cheap gun is right, I've been told a good entry level gun.

Any rust that is there can be easily removed and then the surfaces protected with minimal oiling. IF the rust is under the camo dip I have no idea how to solve that issue. Mossberg does have excellent customer service with the Canadian rep in Mount Forest Ontario. I would not be afraid to buy one. ( I own 3 now)

I have a blued Mossy 500 and I noticed some surface rust starting. It buffed off with gun oil and I just oil the sh!t out of it when it's stored. I'm sure other places won't have this issue, it's 50-90% humidity here on a regular basis (but none of my other firearms have ever rusted like that).

It is an entry level shotgun, but it won't let you down.

With a Mossberg 500, just treat it like it's rented. Slobber some grease on it now and again and it'll run forever. It'll always look like hell, but it'll never quit on you.

I've had more mechanical issues with 870 Remingtons than with Mossberg 500s, and if that statement doesn't start a flame war nothing will....but if I were heading out the door to attend to some really serious business and I had both available, I'd be grabbing the Mossberg.
