Problems with my brand new Sig .22

So I finally got my Sig 226 Classic to the range the other night, had it cleaned and lubed up night for its first time out. I was shooting the same stuff I usually put through my 10/22 and every other .22 I've ever had, American Eagle hollowpoints, and I had a real problem with my gun FTF/FTE roughly 4-5 rounds out of 10. A lot of times it would partially eject the round but it would stick vertically stopping the slide from going fully forward.

I've cleaned and inspected it thoroughly and can't find anything wrong with it, my only idea at this stage is ammo, or does it just need some rounds to break in? So I picked up a bunch of Remington high velocity stuff and going to try it out again today.

Can anybody out there offer me some advice on anything else it could be?
 
I would say find out the velocity of the ammo you are using: are they the high velocity 38gr 1280 ft/sec? I would then find some ammo in the 1320 range, some in the 1380 range. From personal experience with a Sig Mosquito (it ran flawlessly) and a Sig P226 conversion kit: you want to run ammo that will just cycle correctly. If you get 1320fps ammo that runs perfect, if you go into the 1400fps range then you will cause problems in the long run.

Basically, I find Sig .22LR handguns to be very specific on how much recoil/blowback/etc it need to cycle. Once you figure it out though, in my opinion, they run perfect.
 
Unfortunately it's true not every firearm will work with every brand of .22. I have a couple of .22's and I end up experimenting with different brands and velocities to see which ones work best and most reliably for each different firearm. I have a bunch of .22 LR in my ammo cabinet marked with a sharpie on the box to correspond with which pistol or rifle that brand works best for so that I don't get to the range and have a bunch of FTE's or FTF's.
 
for semi-auto .22LR, I had the same problem. You need ammo like CCI Stingers and no hollow points. Standard .22LR ammos wont cut as they do not have enough energy or inertia for the blow-back to cycle the gun properly.
 
I broke mine in with 100rds of CCI Mini Mag.
Then went to Ar Tactical 22lr, about 300rds of it went through.

Now it will eat anything other than golden bullets.

This is on a sig 226 with the 22lr conversion kit.

I also had the same problem with my classic 22 beaver tail. Used cci ammo for a while. It broke the spring in, now it will take any ammo I give it.
 
Just as an additional post, since so many people are saying CCI, my Sig 22LR conversion kit runs smooth as glass and quite accurately on Winchester High Velocity X22LR 40gr at 1255 ft/s (website). I find anything more slams the action too hard and I particularly don't want to "break in" a 22LR blow back action with faster ammo and result in possible damage. That's just my opinion.

It pays to tinker.
 
My buddy's 226 .22 was doing the same thing new, various ammo. We stripped it, cleaned it up, oiled it up, and ran it wet for the next couple of hundred rounds. No problem. Regular cleaning after that, it seems to eat everything. Jacketed premium ammo is best in my opinion, but lots of people shoot plain lead cheapies and are happy.

The conversion kits don't seem to do this, at least not for me. I have owned half a dozen and never had a problem, other than unprimed ammo, which includes CCI rounds that wouldn't go bang no matter how many times you whacked them.

Update went to the range today with a variety of ammo to see if I could figure it out.

It ate Remington thunderbolts quite happily, not one single problem for 300 rounds. I was unable to get my hands on any Cci but soon. I tried the Winchester white box stuff it went right back to problems. The American eagle worked better after the thunderbolts still hit or miss.

So I'm gonna be trying to find some Cci or more thunderbolts as it was perfect with those. Thanks for the advice guys
 
I did the same trial and error with my mp22, i have it to golden bullets (hollow point) or cci tacticals. Winchesters were bad for FTE, i had read the the casing expands to much and gets stuck in barrel and that is exactly what happened to me!! Good luck on your hunt of ammo!! :)
 
My p226 classic does ok with winchester m22 crap. Can't find any cci for a long time now. I had no choice(other than sending it back to Sig), but to polish the feed ramp. Ran much, much better after that.

i find the sig .22 shoots all High velosity ammo well.
i usually use remington (i think yellow jackets) or CCI stinger.
also, use some light oil on the slide rails, dont limp wrist, it is probe to making it stovepipe.
