Hello, I am wondering if anyone else has had these problems with there VZ 58 in .223...

The GEN 2 mag well adapter I purchased with it fits great but none of my AR 15 mags work... the magazine catch will not engage because all the magazines sit too low... I have inserted the magz while the adapter is not installed and they are all gtg but once installed no dice.. (note I have several different metal mags including the LAR 10 round mags) My VZ 50 is second Gen which the mag well was made for.

Different issue then the mag well is more then half the rounds I fire from this rifle wont fire, the firing pin is barely makes a dent and I have tried 9 different types of 5.56mm rounds all the same (note all the rounds that will not fire in this rifle my other 5.56 rifles fire no problem). I also get loads of rounds that fail to eject..

Is this a head space/timing issue???

Any advice how to solve this would be great. Thanks

In your box with your Vz58 there is a warranty card for North Sylva. I'd start moving on that because it sounds like you're rifle has some issues.

Just in case: have you cleaned and lubed it since you got it?

I bought a 7.5" vz58 in .223 and had some teething issues on the first ~50 rounds. I shot junk norinco ammo through it and had some failures to extract and a dead trigger. Took it home, hosed it out with air, cleaned and lubed it, and it hasn't given me trouble since.

Yes gave it a good clean when I received it, left a nice lite coat of oil on the working parts, good pull through the barrel... still nothing.

I was using the norinco ammo the first time I brought it out and thought for sure it was the ammo, but the second trip I had it out I had several different type of ammo from cheap to expensive and still same deal.

I would hope it was a teething issue but before I had it out the second time I gave it another good clean and fired around 200rnds , half of those not firing... just frustrating hearing a click every other round or 2-4 rounds a 5 rnd mag.

I am in contact with the store I purchased it with we will see if they give me any better advice then try different ammo.

Thanks

Probably an issue with your extractor. CSA had a run of guns that had what looked like incorrect extractors, or wrong cut depths on the extractor channel. Didnt grab the rim and just let the round sit inside. I think their was a firing pin issue also. I would contact Thomaz at CSA directly (if its a CSA), and then go jack up North Sylva (they suck to deal with). Also, mags are pretty finicky with those, and must be tuned.

On mine, I found that the firing pin barely made it out/protruded from the firing pin hole of the bolt, thereby not hitting the primer with proper force and not setting them off consistantly (yes, I took pains to make sure there wasn't any gunk in there). I sent the bolt/assembly back to where I bought it and their in-house 'smith made it better. Misfires after were rare.

Bought a new .223 with 11 inch barrel . Same problem light primer strike almost constantly. Gave another cleaning and soaked the bolt and firing pin in degreaser. Second time on range much fewer incidents. Will give it one more cleaning to see if it corrects problem. If not going to notify North Sylva
