I bought a new CSA 223 carbine from SFRC. The first trip to the range was very disappointing. The gun has trouble feeding and ejecting rounds. It wouldnt even load its very first round from the magazine. On average there was 3 to 4 failures out of 5 (per mag). This is with factory magazines and Norinco 223 ammo.

At first I suspected it might be the ammo, but then I read how many use it without issue. Some people have mentioned threads about some of these guns being problematic, but I havent found anything.

I had a few hiccups with mine too. Keep your warranty card! I know a buddy of mine bought a .223 full size and had to get his extractor and bolt replaced.

I'm not going to use the Norc ammo next time, and try ~100 rounds of winchester. If there's still trouble I'll be contacting North Sylva

I have a new vz 58 that I took out for the first time two days ago. I used Norinco .223 as well. I had problems with the plastic mags. Seems like the ammo causes the plastic mag to expand out to the sides and that makes it a touch more difficult to load the mag into the rifle. Charging the rifle was problematic a few times with the rounds jamming between the mag and the barrel. Then, after firing 22 rounds the casing on the 23rd round ruptured and half remains wedged in the barrel. I think the charging problem was the plastic mags and the ruptured casing was obviously the ammo. I have since obtained a magwell and a 10 round pistol mag that I hope will solve the feeding problem. The rifle is with the gunsmith to get the brass removed. Nothing I tried to remove the brass worked.

I had the same problem with my frankin VZ that I converted to 5.56 i was getting case separations , I found the solution was to tighten the head space up to a go gauge plus 0. I also found that the problem was only with norinco ammo I think that the norinco brass is a little thinner that western spec 5.56/223 and that the VZ has a violent extraction cycle which is hard on the brass.

I have a friend who had the same problem with his gun. Upon close examination we found that there was no feed ramp leading into the chamber. In fact the metal was quite square in shape and there was absolutely no ramp to guide the bullet up and in the chamber. I looked at my own VZ 58 and CZ 858 and there is a definite ramp. I hope this helps.

I see what you're saying about the feed ramp. Was he able to remedy the problem?

I tried some MFS 223 with the gun, and the problems continued. Feeding was somewhat better, but with failures being caused by poor extraction (stovepiping). The primer strikes are also very light- same as with the norinco ammo, but causing most of the MFS rounds to fail.

Maybe someone here with a problem-free gun can post a picture of their feed ramp??

There has been a couple of threads on the 223 vz58 with the 11.75 inch barrel FTE causing stovepipes. Mine does it too but I haven't had the FTF issue you have described. The FTE issue is happening less and less the more I shoot it. Break in seems to help.

I've used the Norc 5.56 and Remington 223.
