Hi, I just recently acquired a Norinco and I am having a few problems and I'm wondering if these problems are typical or not.

First, I took it apart and cleaned off the oil.

The 5-round magazine works, however, the 20-round magazine doesn't go in properly. It goes in but the mag release doesn't pop out again and lock the mag in. Would this just be problem with the magazine or with the rifle?

Maybe I reassembled it incorrectly? But I feel like it's correctly assembled.

Another problem is the bolt-hold. The bolt will sometimes just slam forward by itself, and this is very worrisome. Could this be due to the oil it came soaking in and me not adequately cleaning it? Or is this just a defective rifle?

I'd just like to know if anyone has had these problems.

Thank you!

The 20 round mag have a rivet in the spine that maybe sticking out to much?

ok, a good deal of your problems may be determined by stripping the action out of the stock- see if the magazine will lock - it's not uncommon for there to be extra wood or the rear plate on the back of the mag to need modification- now as to the bolt coming forward without notice- take a look at the LEFT side of the action- see that lever?- that has an extension that holds the bolt back - if that extension isn't in the way , the bolt slams shut- it may need some work to get it to function properly-
