i invited a group of guys to my camp, which happens to be on the other side of a few big areas of crown land to another camp that had 12 guys this year.
we baited a area, and set up tree stands.
day 1 - 710am they come up behind us with 2 dogs, blasting rounds in the air and pushed 3 deer towards their shooters...
they had to pass our truck that was beside the trail, they knew we were in there
same thing day 2...dont think they got any deer that day
later we went to another area, where they told us to leave claiming its their area, we argued, i said its crown land to to f off.
this went on for a few days, yesterday we got up early, set up for a push had our shooters in place and they cime in and surround us and put us right in between their shooters and their pushers..again, they walked around our trucks.

they dont know that im aware of this, one of the older guys let it slip...
they shot a fawn on the trail, and i passed the litter they left (gloves, paper towels etc) and i found something funny....the backing of a moose tag..moose is out of season in this area. i lined the notches on the backing against my expired moose tag i had back at camp and confirmed te dates and times.

so..
using invalid tags
threatening us
littering
unsafe discharge of firearms
and just general BS and lack of respect.

they are on a grandfathered 100 year property lease, they claim they have been there for 50 years (one guy told me its his first year there) and i didnt say anything because i dont want them to know where my OWNED property is but if they are playing the my building has been here longer game..guess what...it hasnt.

im not one to involve police, i dont want to go to court for anything.
what happens if i contact MNR?
should i??

If someone knowingly discharges a firearm in an unsafe manner near me the police would be informed and if I see a blatant game infraction I call the CO's.

what is the CO?
and what is my obligations to the complaints i make? i also took a pic of they stealing wood from the logging area...trucks and plate #s

also, they shoot out their truck wile driving down the road, which is part of their push, not at game that i can tell of anyway.

develope very offensive body odor , then every time you see one of them , treat them like long lost friends and continualy give them big stinky hugs .......
thats easy...i was hunting for 7 days straight and was covered in doe and buck scents lol

Call the MNR and report it.. you don't have any "obligations" once a complaint is filed. you have a valid reason based on your suspicion that they are poaching (using a moose tag on a deer)

Let the MNR deal with the camp, just report what you saw, and then get back to your hunting.. if there is something wrong then the MNR will deal with it..

we pulled out and called it a season for our own safety.
one of my concerns is i don want these guys to know who i am and possibly damage my property.
based on who i saw, their ages are 16-70ish. so its hard to say who is level headed and who isnt in their group, but the owner of the beagle is the one who was shooting unsafely to start off.

if you don't do anything about it now, then it just gets worse year after year.. the MNR won't say if there is a complaint or who made it.. they just show up and check tags/licenses and go from there..

i found a contact email for MNR on their site and i emailed them pictures and the info.

I had similar problems this year in moose season. Informing the MNR is the appropriate response. They'll want to know about the moose tag you found, and it's illegal to interere with somebody's hunt. It may not lead to charges being laid, but a visit from the CO should settle them down somewhat.

I am with you on that approach. If we do not police ourselves then these types are the poster children for the anti-hunting crowd.

This.

Get the MNR involved. If you've set up tree stands and baited an area, and they come pushing through it twice, they've purposely interfered with your hunt.

Sounds like you've already done it, but yes, a discreet call to the MNR or the report a poacher line if you have something like that in Ontario would be called for. I'm sure either action would result in some "random" checks of the area in question.

Best to get your story in first. If they are a bunch of sh*ts they might be the sort to think of making up stuff about you to try to use the authorities to run you off "their" hunting area.

Now that you have, the people you complained about may guess that your camp tipped off the authorities and may make retaliatory accusations. Be cheerful and polite with the enforcement officers, be open with them if they come to your camp. They are duty bound to check out complaints, but they generally aren't stupid and will likely detect who has an attitude problem and who is being straight with them.

didnt know it was illegal to interfere with someones hunt, i just thought it was more of a common sense thing not to run in and be a bunch of idiots.

to top it off, we actually had our tree stands tampered with, they loosened off the ratchet straps, i think they tried to steal them but realized they were all cable locked on. i think i had 3 locks on mine and my friends had 3-4...basically each section locked to the tree.when i ran into those guys, they asked if i was the owner of the ree stands (after a few words went back and forth) so i told them about he tampering with them..they denied it, then i said its ok, a friend went up and the stand was tampered with, he fell out and is injured but will be ok.... fortunately we had 8 trail cams on them and have a few pictures of the guys who did it and the OPP already has the pictures.
they backed off and changed their tone...for a short period of time...but the bs went on

now...the injury is a lie, we check our equipment before we use it.
we did have 8 cams up there, and there were pics of someone messing with the stands, but it was all wiped out before the arguments, so no evidence. no one was hurt so im not pushing this part of the complaint.
a friend who is opp said this is actually attempted murder (as well as them shooting in our direction)

im not worried about MNR looking into my camp, we dont break the laws, if i ever got a criminal charger i would loose my job, then i wouldnt be able to buy cool toys...so ill keep it on the level.
also, we packed it in for the gun season, didnt get a single deer. im goin back out for bow season when its safer hopefully ill get use of my doe tag...(our camp won 3 doe tags this year....)

im going to call the MNR tomorrow afternoon if i got get a confirmation email or something from them.
i sent my email complaint to :
Ministry: mnr.nric.mnr@ontario.ca
Minister: minister.mnr@ontario.ca

From the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act 1997:

Obstruction of hunting, trapping or fishing

13. (1) A person shall not interfere with lawful hunting, trapping or fishing by,

(a) tampering with traps, nets, bait, firearms or any other thing used for hunting, trapping or fishing;

(b) placing himself or herself in a position, for the purpose of interfering, that hinders or prevents hunting, trapping or fishing; or

(c) engaging in an activity, for the purpose of interfering, that disturbs or is likely to disturb wildlife or fish.

just received a email back from the MNR. they have sent the info (including pictures) to a conservation officer in the area and are going to be investigating this.

they also said in the future they prefer it to be phoned in than emailed, probably for a faster response, but either way my info got in and they are dong some digging.
thanks for the info guys, ill be going to the same spot next year, the year after, and so on. being a property owner in the area im not going to let these guys get their way.

anyone know anything about those old 100 year leases for $100 that the government issued? how valid are they and how hard to have overturned or for someone like me to buy out the property then evict them? the land they are on cant be more than 10-20 grand, its only .5achre and the cabin is more of a big shed.

I believe the MNR stopped giving out crown hunt camp leases in 1967 ( they were called Department of Lands & Forests back then). It's a 99 year lease, and I don't know what becomes of the camp once the lease expires. The lease holders have no special rights to the crown land other than to use and maintain a cabin or building on one acre. The government has occasionally sold off lots of crown to be used as cottage lots, but I can't see this happening with the hunt camps.

I don't have an official source for this information, it's just what I've been told.
