If a student shows up at a Black Badge course, having driven for hours to get there, only marginally familiar with their pistol (and IPSC rules), and - until now - this student has always shot their K100D or USP45 single-action only, and is struggling to hit the targets when firing from the double-action first shot, what would you have the Black Badge instructor do? Time constraints do not allow for extensive remedial instruction; would you rather the student be sent home? What does it matter which ready condition this student uses to pass the Black Badge, so long as the student passes it? Isn't it better to successfully pass the course today, and figure out alternate ready positions/Divisions later?

I don't want to be shooting at a match with someone "marginally familiar" with their gun and still learning how to decock the gun.
IPSC is extremely safety conscious and passing someone not fully qualified is unfair to everyone.
You shouldn't be taking the BB course if you are still learning how to shoot and operate your firearm.

The CRFSC leaves a huge knowledge gap.

Unless the student happens to have the advantage of a supportive club, how are they supposed to become 'ready' for a Black Badge?

Level 1 matches and practice days are the best but anyone that is an experienced shooter, has good gun handling skills and is familiar with the gun they will be using will have very little problems passing the BB course.

I've found that anytime there is the question about loaded and holstered in regards to the DA (I'm a 2011 guy), a more experienced shooter will take them aside and give them a quick refresher.

Indeed. I only started IPSC this year (shudda done it a decade ago!) and the more experienced guys at the matches were more than willing to help us newbies.

They need to shoot and handle their gun. And dry fire...a lot! Lots of fantastic instructional Youtube videos for all levels of shooters out there to learn from. No excuse why someone taking the Black Badge Course can’t lower their hammer safely on a chambered round for their first DA shot. It’s not that difficult to safely learn this basic skill in an unloaded dry fire scenario.

You need to have a certain minimum skill set and an accuracy before you take your Black Badge. Which really isn’t all that hard to achieve. If you can’t consistently safely perform these basic drills and skills, either learn them or maybe IPSC is not for you.

not taking course until you are familiar with your own gun or the requirement to consistently be able to hit a 8" plate at 15 yards isn't much to ask for

a BB instructor on the other hand teaching this stupidity however makes you think, what else are they guys letting through?
