progressive loaders - which one

So I won a new GP6 at the IPSC BC AGM.. I'm probably going to trade or sell it towards a new progressive press as I don't want to shoot another season single stage loading and I already shoot a glock 22 (not too badly :). I'll take my time and watch the EE here but I'm probably going to go with a 550B in .40 first, then .357, then 45/70 as I can or however it works out.

I really think I could improve my whole game with a ~128 pf 9mm in the gp6, but I did well shooting a 153 pf .40 in the provincials and it was more fun. There's lots of places for me to improve my game before the quicker sight picture on my second shot plays a huge role. Practice is more important.

Thank you everyone for your help, your bickering back and forth and everything else because I have learned where to look and what for and I feel more comfortable now making this kind of purchase. Like I said, I want to do it once. For the volume I shoot, ~1k/month I think a 550 will suit me better because I'm going to get 5 different caliber conversions.

Thanks and the pistol will probably end up on the EE.. Depends if I can resist he urge to put 100 through it first.

In my eyes, progressive press without autoindexing isn't progressive.
You can sure manage 1K loads a month on 550, but I personally still think that 650 or LNL AP are more sensible choices. And I'm very happy with my LNL AP.

Just a question for you Dillon 550 owners.

Can you see the powder in the case before you advance it to the bullet seat position?

I want someway of visually checking the powder amount in the case or an RCBS/Dillon powder check die.

Or the auto primer filler puts it in that way

Let me guess, Winchester primers? Mine runs 100% with Federal, but the slightly smaller Winchester were trying to tip right when they hit the blue insert.

One guy on BE suggested getting a spare insert and painting the inside with a thin film of lacquer to reduce the ID.

Yes...it's quite easy to see it with the 550

I have an early model...and had this issue before I upgraded the switch. The old model out of the box ran too fast for small primers...and the odd one would get carried across the cut outs that flip them over.

Since I upgraded the switch and dialed it down a bit...no issues. I've found the S&B primers to be the least problematic.

However...it doesn't change my opinion that the 550 really chokes if you get an upside down one.
