Quig, for some reason when things get shipped across the boarder via courier, UPS or FedEx, all these duties and/or brokerage fees show up but, and I can assure you this, if you specify USPS these charges disappear. Shipping for that item ought to have been less than 50 bucks.

Shipping by USPS a few years back for a 1050 and a 650 direct from Dillon was $400.

Just recently bought stuff direct from LEE and another major reloading Co. They will ship tools to Canada no prob. Also USPS is the way to do it, "If" you pay duty it will only be the tax plus a $5 CBSA fee. Fed Ex/UPS will make sure you pay duty, mybe even too much and then charge $34+ for the privilege of brokering it.

Eguns.com carries Dillon stuff and they supposedly have better shipping rates than ordering directly from Dillon.

+1. When I bought a complete Dillon 550 with extra bits & pieces including tumbler, scale, a couple of reloading manuals etc. from Chad at eguns.com a couple of years ago shipping was $70 or $80 to Nova Scotia.

If you're anywhere within a hour to hour and a half from the border it pays to use one of the shipment receivers along the US border. Then you bring it across and declare it at Canada Customs. That way you avoid a lot of the Fedex and UPS brokerage BS and often get a better US only shipping rate.

x2. These parcel pickup services in the border towns are great.

I got my order from Natchezz about 3 weeks ago no prob. Got a lee pro 1000, tumbler and bullet puller with another loading book. The cost was lower even with the customs duties then to buy in Canada.

We buy direct from Dillon and carry a fairly large inventory in stock. Dillon has been our best selling reloading line for several years but we also carry RCBS, Hornady, Redding and Lyman. Dillon was originally a direct to consumer company but realized that a dealer network would improve overall sales. We get 22% off the retail price but have to pay all related shipping cost which recently have been enormous. Our current shipment is for $8140.51 (US) but our shipping cost (not including brokering charges) is $1567.64. That works out to about to over 19% cost for shipping of the cost of the goods themselves. With our brokering cost added to this we are almost paying the US retail cost in US $ to have it landed to our door. Depending on currency exchange (which is dropping again) you can see why the product is a lot more in Canada. Even going direct from Dillon by the end user you would have similar expenses to have the goods landed to your door. On average we mark up about 35% to justify carrying the product. Phil.

I only suggested for the OP to go directly to dillon as i believed that to be his cheapest option based on location and my knowledge of where the product is available locally. If the OP bought from Epps (incidentally where i bought from) he would waste an entire day of driving and prob a tank or more of gas depending on the vehicle. When i purchased my XL650 i paid approx. $70 more than ordering direct but i got it on the spot which was worth more to me than waiting for the mail. I like to support the sponsoring dealers as much as i can but realistically price wins as i have yet to find a dealer who will give me a discount just cause things are tight for me (nor should they, nor should i pay more just so they can make a buck).

My response was not directed at you but was just a general description as to the costs associated with bringing in product where shipping and brokering cost are incurred. As you can see the discount for dealers in minimal (unlike other reloading companies) and makes it difficult to match the prices in the US. We are attempting to get our shipping cost down for future orders, Phil.

I also wasn't trying to slag you, your store, or your prices. I hear nothing but good things about your business. Most people don't realise the cost of doing buisness or that a lot of the time canadiaqn buisnesses are held hostage by american prices. However I have heard other buisness owners tooting the support yor local store even if the prices are way too high. I understand the cost of owning a buisness and will not drive to another town to save 5 bucks but sometimes you have to go where the deals are. Hope to do b uisness with you in the future Phil.
