So I understand the grandfathering business for family prohibs but I see a lot for sale in the exchange forum and I'm wondering who else is able to/going to buy them. Collecters allowed to? Can they be brought to the range and fired? Grasping at straws to figure a way to give little snubby a loving home.

anyone who owned a 12(6) class handgun before 1996(?) has a grandfathered liscence and can buy and sell prohibs. Yes 12(6) class handguns can be brought to the range and fired.

People that have been grandfathered will have 12(6) on the back of their PAL. This means they can buy other 12(6) guns. And they can go to the range like any other restricted gun. If you don't have 12(6) now you can't get 12(6) and you can't buy a 12(6) gun (as is). It sucks...

OK I get it. I thought you could only be grandfathered for prohibs you had personally prior to the "enlightened era". At least some people can enjoy them. D*mn.

As close as a non 12(6) PAL holder can get 'legally' is to acquire a prohib that has been converted to 'restricted' status with the addition of a longer barrel +/or change to a non-prohib ctg... :(

Call your MP and ask them why you can't buy a pistol that has a 1mm shorter barrel than the legal limit. You do know who your MP is right?

That is the thing that makes the barrel restriction so stupid. What is the difference between 1 freaking mm!!! I would absolutely love to get my hands on a 12(anything). I am willing to marry any daughter who has a father with a 12 license.

That doesn't make any sense, no matter what the length is, 1 mm over would always be legal whether they picked 2" barrels or 5" barrels as a minimum length. That is like asking why it is illegal to drive over the posted speed limit. I am not saying the law is right but the Government of the day picked that length and we have to live with it unless the new Government changes it which I doubt they will, think of the lives it is saving.

This was a cheap, sneaky move that Allan Rock and the "coalition for gun control" used in an attempt to eliminate thousands + more legally owned firearms. The 4" barrel is just a hair under 4", so they set the boundary at 4" knowing 4" barrels are 1mm, or so, shy of the full 4". They originally lusted to completely ban the under 4" barrelled gun, but their legal beagles informed the "Commies" the banned firearms, under the law, would have to be purchased, in otherwords the gov't would have to pay the owner fair market value. So the "grandfathered clause" was the next best move for these guys. Originally there was to be no handing down to family members, the gun would die with the ownwer. But Canada still had enough freedom left that there is some latitude and longitude remaining with the grandfathered 12-6.

Keep this in mind on voting day. The world is run by those who show up.

"...willing to marry any daughter who has a father with a 12 license(sic)..." That'd only frustrate you more. You still wouldn't get the permit and you'd be married.
From the CFC site. "must have continuously held a valid registration certificate for a firearm in that category since December 1, 1998."
"...unless the new Government changes it which I doubt they will..." You're right. They've already said they won't. They want to end the registration of hunting firearms. Everything else will stay the same.

12-6

Actually its not just 12-6, 12-6 I believe is just short barrelled pistols, there are a few other classes of prohib. 12-1, 12-2, etc. etc.
From converted autos, to full autos, and so on. :runaway:

There is different classes of prohibited, but they are even harder to get then a 12(6).

I'm well aware of the various prohibited classes. They're all impossible, not "even harder", to get now without a time machine. I've got a few on the back of my PAL.

I was just wondering just what he was trying to say in his post as it didn't make any sense to me.

OMG... NEVER heard that one before! Now that is just going too far! :onCrack:

Actually it would be better to marry a woman who is 12(6). This will allow you to have 12(6) guns made before 1946 transfered to you under 12(7). Newer guns can not be transfered to a person without 12(6). If she is 12(6) then she can buy post 1945 guns. If you are nice I'm sure she will let you shoot them.
