Prohibited License

The only way you will get a Prohibited license now is if they make a non-restricted or restricted firearm you currently own prohibited with a grandfather system.

One Prohib status you can still get is 12(7) which is basically if a family member has a 12(6) firearm that was manufactured before 1949 (IIRC) and they die, passing it down to you. 12(7) means you can posses only that 12(6) firearm and you cannot acquire anymore 12(6)'s.

Welcome to the mighty CGN, new guy.
Have a look at the Newbie FAQ sEction thing that I wrote, just for newbs. Your question is in there somewhere.
The link is in my sigline below.

How does one go around obtaining their Prohibited?

:D
Most opportunities to acquire grandfathered status ended in 1998.

For Firearms Act Section (2) status you needed to have a full auto registered to you prior to 1978.

The only faint hope clause remaining (very faint) is to elect a federal government that would be willing to repeal Section 12 of the Firearms Act.

The above & me becoming the next Pope have about the same probability.......not gonna happen.

We'll be lucky to get rid of that fraken Long Gun Registry......I wouldn't bet my pension on that happening either.

Canadian gun owners don't get mad & fight for stuff.................it's not who they are...............most are chronic whiners & complainers who like to hear themselves talk (mostly here on this board) but in reality prefer a more structured, regulated society with an autocratic nanny state government to look after them even if it means losing their firearms rights & guns.......like it or not........that's the way it is........sometimes you just have to look reality in the face & accept it for what it is.......I did 10 years ago & it was just like taking a 300 pound anvil off of each of my shoulders.

The roll over & play dead acceptance of Bill 9 (the Anastasia Law) in Quebec is a clear indication that nothing has changed since Bill C-68 & the above paragraph is as true now as it was then.

Thanks for the info. I did scan thru that newb section. The search engine seems a little weak to me on this forum. Could be my system or something.

I was just curious, cause I saw a guy selling and AR15, without mags cause they were 30rds and he stated he had his prohib.

cause I saw a guy selling and AR15, without mags cause they were 30rds and he stated he had his prohib.

30 rd mags are prohibited in Canada by civilians. Even if you can own a prohib firearm you can't own a prohib mag. They have to be altered to hold only 5 rounds. We normally refer to them as 5/30 5/20 5/10 round mags.

Unfortunately, prohibs amount to a slow, permanent ban; made palatable by not pissing off current owners too much. In 50 years, only one person will be able to own all the prohibs and the Government will have melted down all the rest. When the last 12(6) dies, almost all the prohibs in Canada will be destroyed, save for the 12(7)s.

Or become Prime Minister with a majority government and simply scrap the law.

Or elect a Prime Minister that understands how to negotiate and can get ANYTHING passed even in an extreme minority. This majority crutch has to stop being used as an excuse why the CPC isn't doing what it promised us. Governments negotiate all the time with the other parties to get done what they want done. The CPC just sees us as a captive audience and feels that they don't really have to do anything for us because we will still vote for them. If they really wanted to eliminate the Registry they would just negotiate with the Bloq or the NDP or the Lieberals, only a few from one would have to be bought off with a concession.

Or finally stand up and remember what it means to be a Canadian.

"...saw a guy selling an AR15, without mags..." Lots of legal AR mags available. Of course, you'd need an RPAL to buy an AR.
"...move to the States..." Easier said than done and it depends on which State. Not all States allow Class 3 ownership.
