Project Gevarm....

So as I anxiously await the street sweepers to kick off bike season and start to get ready for spring bear I thought my old Gevarm might be an interesting diversion.....

How tough to get the crinkle off the receiver and do you think it would polish up well? Anything that can be done with the trigger? Polish up the bolt Y/N? I'd like to try and adapt a peep, the wood should be straight forward.... Any suggestions welcome, poor old gal doesn't come out much anymore, was thinking a facelift would get me to trot her out a bit more.

It is a slender, trim rifle in the hands.

The crinkle paint started to come off mine without even trying. I wanted to refinish the stock, and it's such a bloody pain to get the buttstock off I just taped up the rear of the receiver. The paint came away with the tape. The receiver is a zinc alloy so I doubt it will take a polish very well, and blueing is out of the question too. The buttstock is held on with a drawbolt, and the hole for the nut is ridiculously small. I had mine in to a gunsmith for repair at one time and he had to grind down a socket to fit.

The wood is French walnut and looks great with an oil finish.

Those are amazing little guns. Mine will cycle .22 Quiets and I've been told they will cycle shorts, but I don't have any on hand to try. They're quit accurate if you sand bag them and learn to deal with the twitchy open bolt.

I have a few gevarms. Personally, I would leave it alone. Polishing
could change the tolerances. Since it is an open bolt. The magazines and the receiver have to work together to feed and eject etc

I agree. Also, the gun doesn't look that bad from the pics posted. Going by the pics, it could be a $400.00 gun. Mess with it and it's worth nothing.

I think a lot can be done to the reciever so I say go for it but as for the stock just keep it simple. I am constantly surprized, in a good way over the quality of French walnut used by Gevarm. You could almost grade the wood but most people can't appriciate that. My E1 has a beautiful patern and a dark spot that makes it look great.

They're an interesting looking rig, Crinkle paint on guns is yucky, I'm sure whatever you do will be an improvement.
