Finally had the chance to attend one of the Mapleseed Events (Canadian version of USA’s Project Appleseed), and have nothing but great things to say about the event, instructors and the event planning. I’d highly recommend anyone wishing to get some formal training on rifle shooting fundamentals to attend one of these events.

After lots of tips and tricks from the instructors, I ended shooting both a 232 and 211 which earned me my “Rifleman” patch with my trusty CZ 452 Lux (iron sights).

Anyone else had the pleasure of attending one these events? I’d love to hear about it.

Awesome! Congratulations on making Rifleman. What ammo did you use?

Nice shooting! Shot mine at Edson a couple years ago. It was +30° out, and I drank about 5 gallons of water that day. I think a 240 was my highest out of 4 MQTs that we shot that day. Used a 10/22.

Congrats on the score! I kinda wish I had brought a scoped rifle instead of a bolt action with iron sights, might have gotten much closer to 250.

You’d need theproper scope, mine was blurry that close. Useable though, stilll better than irons for my old eyes. A semi definitely would have taken pressure off

Get out to these Mapleseed events and shoot! So much good fundamental learning to be had!!

TT Approved... hahahahaha

The instructors are animated and hold your attention. I learned a bunch MORE shooting tips and tricks! It’s all good!! Their physical setup and teaching approach is fantastic! What’s not to like?

Cheers,
Barney.

While working as a host for this weekends events I didn't have time to attend the full Mapleseed's course (I have attended 3 or 4 now), but I was around the range all day in my spare time. They did get me on the line during the MQT's (and when all of my coffee making and cooking/cleaning had been completed). I managed to field my purpose built Ruger 10/22 Mannlicher Iron sight beauty out and even was able to achieve a rifleman score with it, 222 if I recall. Been trying to do that with irons for 3 years now. Practice and persistence is key!

The next day I found I had less time but was tempted by the offer of a loaner bolt action rifle that belonged to Mapleseed Instructor Kevin Lathem. After a quick 5 shots to confirm the zero I had time for 1 MQT. I managed to get all the shots off during those 2 short stages by mere milliseconds, and more importantly they all hit the paper! And roughly where I was aiming! With the one attempt I was again able to achieve a rifleman score of 235. Thanks for the loaner rifle Kevin! :D

Cheers to all the other newly minted "Riflemen" (there was a lot of them!) , and to all the attendees and staff!
