Hey and merry Christmas all! My question is parts related, I want to build a couple of bolt action rifles for myself and my oldest boy. Is there a source in canada for a couple of Mauser actions? (Bolt and receiver, or barreled .308 actions, less stock). I want stripper clip loading as an option. The point is to teach as I build them, so price is not as big a deal as it normally would be. I have access to a machine shop so that is not a problem, either. So, am I crazy, or not?

Trade Ex Canada, on the board, has barreled actions or use one of the milsurp rifles or commercial mauser guns as the base to your custom build. Ad at the top of the page.

i ended up with a llama 9mm frame, slide, barrel and a few other parts, so i hunted the EE and a few local sources for some 1911 parts and ended up building the pistol that way, and the whole thing ran less than 60 bucks. i learned alot doing it.

my next project is a 25-20 built with a stevens tip up action i just scored, next big component is the barrel, and then borrowing a reamer.

Gunshows are the best place to find WWI and II actions. However, be careful that many have seen a tough life and may have structural issues. Always magnuflux these actions and bolt/lugs to ensure no cracks are occuring.

Don't forget about the Enfield P series. These are essentially really oversized Remchesters. There are still parts available making conversion easier. They do have a goofy barrel thread but if doing the machining yourself, a great learning aid. How often do you need ACME square threads anymore?

Ideally, I would start with a BSA sporterised version. Little difference in price and the hard work has been done. Again, may not be what you are after.

It doesn't have a Stripper clip but the Stevens/Savages are awesome to build up too. Very simple, safe and you can do it all in the comfort of your home without major tools

I can certainly offer you prethreaded/chambered barrels ready for install. And Barrel blanks if you prefer to do all the machining yourself. For the difference in price, really hard to justify unless you really want to do it yourself and have access to reamers.

Here is a link of available chamberings. New LR target chamberings like 6XC, 6.5X47L, etc are also available.

Let me know if I can help you with parts like barrels, triggers, scope bases, rings, etc.
