since i couldnt afford a real springfield socom II (or afford to shoot it even if i owned one) im building a mini version of it which i could shoot thousands of rounds through it! i call it socom 22

chop and shape the stock

day 2 of work

fiber glass

ahhh to have access to a workshop!! very nice. cant wait to see it completed.

how does the UTG rail attach to the receiver?
 
thanks for all the compliments. i always like the scout/sniper style rifle but to build an M1A to look like them is just too costly.and its not probably would not get used much when 308s are @ 80 cents a round! big thanks to my friend who let me use his garage and tools.

the UTG reail require some fitting but nothing too difficult even for beginners. you would have to sand down the stock where the barrel band used to be til the UTG lower rail is able to wrap around the wood . its a tight fit and the kit comes with a machined aluminum spacer to fit on top of a factory barrel (that's why i got the factory contour shorty from dlask instead of bull, plus it looks better than bull barrel once fitted with a flash hider) . to fit the rail over a bull barrel is do-able but it will require at least couple more hours of sanding the stock for the barrel to sit and play around with spacers so the rail sits parallel to the barrel. the rail also mounts on the factory holes on top of the receiver. its very sturdy and wont go anywhere . do put some loc-tie in the screws because i see the chance of them coming lose under recoil.

i will snap some close up pic of the front and show you guys how the UTG goes together when i work on it more tonight.

I'd appreciate that indeed.....:)...that rail installation left me a bit confused...:redface:

Did you consider modifying the m14 recoil plate to reduce its overall height in keeping with the scale of the 10/22 stock? You might be able to cut an inch off the top, right at the hinge.

you mean from top to bottom? i dont see how i could pull that off without screwing up the looks /function of the plate. it should look fine once the stock is filled and sanded because the front of the gun looks and weights kinda heavy with the UTG plus the 10/22 stock is too small to began with, i like this thing to be thick and heavy. the gun is @ 31" right now IIRC and feels like a single shot shorty in hand. pretty awesome feel.
 
Looks great! I love to see someone else working on the exact project that I had in mind...I hate making all the mistakes myself!:D
