prolly a stupid question about slug moulds

I was wondering if I could just melt down my extra hard shot I use in my trap shells to cast slugs from a lee mould? Any speical things to consider. I'm just loading them to see how accurate I can get for fun so the hardness doesn't bother me. Any help would be great thanks
 
I would think hardness is an issue if going through a choke. I may be wrong, but I think factory rifled slugs are pure lead. why not contact Lee and ask them?
 
Yup, you could use your shot as a lead source, but that's a pretty spendy source of lead, isn't it?
The hardness doesn't matter, except if you have a tight fit and plan on pushing the slug through a choke.
Special considerations? If you are using a smoothbore, a tight fit does make the slug more accurate. I used to paper-patch mine to get a nice sliding fit (and I used water-quenched wheelweights, so they were pretty darn hard.
 
The instructions that come with it state that wheel weights will stick to the mold and not release. I don't know if that's true or not, but they (Lee, the manufacturer) state to use only pure lead, so if you use wheel weights and they become forever one with your mold, it's on you ;)
 
I have a rifled barrel and Lee says they're accurate thro a smoothbore as well. The price is no matter as I'm casting 7/8oz slugs so its the same as a trap shell. I just have a #### load of lead shot layin round but thanks for the info. As for chokes they'll b shot thro mods and ill mike them first
 
i save the shot, and cast 7/8oz using roofing lead i get from a friend. i use imp. cyl. choke. functions great in my 1100
