So I got my second piece of the puzzle today. A CFW barrel chambered in .308.Very nice but pricy. I measured the muzzle ( where I'm guessing the threads go for a comp)? It's 1 1/2 inches , this seems a bit long for threads. Longer than my rem barrel was threaded anyway. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated ..View attachment 39960View attachment 39959

You usually cut at least an inch from the muzzle of the barrel when chambering. hopefully the od of that part is a big enough diameter for the thread size you want to use for the brake.

Thanks, I haven't even thought of that as I thought all brakes for .308 were threaded the same. I don't think I really need a brake so I may just get a thread protecter.

That part is removed by the gunsmith I believe it is needed for the barrel to fit in the machine that wraps the carbon. There is info on there website about that piece as seen in the link below. Your barrel will end at the wide part.

That makes sense, I admit , I didn't do a whole lot of research , just skimmed their website after I got offered this barrel, at a good price.

As was mentioned, the front of the barrel will be removed in the installation process. Typical is 1" but that depends alot of the muzzle flair during the lapping process so the smith should measure to make sure.

If it is 1" removed, I prefer more then 1/2" for threads. Can be done, but that can also be solved in the lathe during install.

What is the diameter of that stub? Hopefully, it will measure 5/8" diameter.

Love to hear how it shoots for you.

Yes it's 5/8, It's going to Chou Brothers, so hopefully they can figure it out.Ill be looking for a scope for this also and I'll be in contact , after Christmas.
