Just picked up a 10x 10 inch steel shooting gong.

I bought it and immediately went to the range to try it out. I had a lot of fun shooting it. One guy came to the range with a 6 x 6 gong so we took turns shooting each other's gongs.

I looked at the chain & bolt setup on the gong and am not happy with the nut/bolt setup.

Can someone here who has one of the larger metal gongs chime in as to how they set their's up?

Mine was simply a 2-inch bolt through each eyelet with a washer/nylon lock nut combo. That's it. My gong is heavy, so one of the bolts has warped as well as the weight of the gong is chewing up the bolt-threads, so it looks like the way it's set up now I'll be having to always replace the bolts often.

FYI, had more fun shooting at the gong than shooting at my splatter targets. I took these with me too, but left them in the trunk. Had not urge to shoot them.

I have two ways to attach gongs. I found the chains get shot off so I found some 1/2 conveyor belting and made a strip about 2 inches wider than the eyelets for small gongs or two 3 inch strips for larger gongs. The bolts I used were the same Diameter as the gong holes so no play there. It is on out range so it gets alots of rounds and is doing well after a few months. The second way is to use 4 inch fire hose in place of the rubber. This is how MTM targets sells their gongs and MTM is first rate equipment. So it must work. I will be trying this on my next gongs.

Mine are 30mm thick so I was able to have the rings welded onto the edges.
