Proper break in for a 10/22??

Just ordered my first 10/22 - the tactical target model with the short heavy barrel http://www.ruger.com/products/1022Tactical/models.html

Probably a question that has been asked many times before, but what is the proper break-in procedure for a 10/22?

Should be pretty well broke in, in about ten years or so.

Really, just shoot it.

Load 'er up and shoot the shiznit outta her!!!

...and clean 'er out every 100 rounds. The wear and tear on a 10/22's pretty slight, especially if you get 'er new; you'll have her for years/multiple marriages.

Does cleaning the shipping oil involve stripping down everything? Or is it just pull the bolt, apply solvent, re-oil and go.

i think you forgot to add a few 0000s to the end of that :/ my sr22 has 10k + rnds threw it and its been cleaned once :/ no failute to feed or fire

maybe clean the action and chamber but dont scrub out the barrel you will get your best accuracy after shooting the first 2 boxes threw (100 rounds) a clean 22 rimfire barrel only scrub out the barrel after every 500 rounds and youll get excellent barrel life and best accuracy

Just like a$$hole everyone has an opinion. Here is mine. We have some cooey .22's that have been in the family for some time now and never seen a cleaning kit. Never oiled the outside of it nothing. There are 10's of thousands of rounds through them and not one problem. every trigger pull = one bang

Run a boresnake or a dry patch through the barrel before you put any ammo through it, just in case there is oil/whatever in the bore. A brick of HV ammo, and it's broken in.

Ive recently seen two new 10/22s that functioned perfectly on their first trip out, ran just like sewing machines. Never missed a beat.

I just bought a new 10/22 DSP last week..

was passing through Edmonton with the missus, stopped in at Wholesale sports, and there it was - been looking everywhere for this model for over a month!

Ran a quick boresnake through it, ran flawlessly on blazers. Mind you, I only shot around 50 or 60 rounds.

I pass a soft brush down the barrel every couple of brick and cleas the action whit scot towel and oil afther every shooting cession to remouve the build up of crap!
