I have decided to make these little jems available to you chaps. I managed to find these pictures a few years ago and since Tudenom asked a question about proper sniper sling use I thought that I would post them here.

The black and white picture is an image of Queen Elizabeth prior to her ordainment. I do not understand why most GunNutz consider her to be anti-gun. She is obviously trained in the arts of marksmanship. I would cut off one my dog's testicles for that particular SMLE (sorry Ruger but I would). Note the extra barrel band. I have never seen this before aside from this image.

These images will be used later on my web site as I am devoting a section to marksmanship training and ballistics for CDN Rangers. We require more Queen's Medals within our ranks.

Enjoy.
Richard

Reminds me of Thomas Plunket who shot Gnl. de Colbert in Spain during the Napoleonic war by lying down and putting his boot in his rifle's sling. Apparently it was a pot shot.

Ok now that version of the Queen is ###y.

Interesting sling method. :D

Yes and I think that that is her grandmother, Queen Mary, wife of Geroge V, on the spotting scope!

No hearing protection either!! :D

In the 3rd pic, I suspect that it is a half loop which is nailed to the forend. I've seen similar rifles before. IIRC it is to keep the handguard from warping from the pressure of the packing between the handguard & barrel.

The extra barrel band is to retain a spring loaded plunger which put pressure on the top of the barrel. Definitely an SR(b).

I have Fulton Regulated No.1 thats missing that front band ...
( anybody have one for sale ?? )
Here's a couple picts :
Forestocks showing the stain and screw scar from the missing band

The barrel supports are seen here in the front handguard . Spring loaded , these put a downward pressure onto the barrel and are the reason for the extra barrel band .

I believe I have some pictures you may want to see. If someone would be kind enough to give me a few pointers on how to post them, I have some photos of my No 1 Mk III*, "Martin Adjusted" Lee Enfield, complete with closeups of the extra barrel band in the Queen photo. Thanks.

to post pictures you have to upload them onto a site then link to them. Or just e-mail them to someone who has webspace that will host them for you.

I would but I can only do it from home and my home machine is having problems :(

I do want to see those photos
