Proper target sling use (lee enfields)

Alright, I have the photos posted so they can be viewed by all at:

http://www.wightman.ca/~enfield/

If you take the extra barrel band off, the top wood bows up and looks really ugly.
By the way, this rifle is probably more accurate that any of my new hunting or "varmint" rifles. I still use it in the odd military competition at my gun club. The stickers on the side of the action were on the rifle when I bought it and similar stickers were on the Long Branch No 4 DCRA rifle that came along with the No 1. It is interesting to note that there appears to be something on the left side of the forestock below the charger bridge in the original Queen photo, in the same spot. Was it common practice for shooters to label their rifles like this? I would really like to see a bettery quality scan of the original photo and try to make out what is on the Queen's rifle.

Not sure about the labeling though..those print out, stick on labels where invented and made pop' in the mid 60's, I doubt they where around in 1939, but I could be wrong.

Even has a Parker Hale 5A peep sight. Neat'o
The more I get into Enfields the more I realize that there is allot of history that is almost ready to be lost.

This happens oddly enogh with many great inventions that are common.
And talking to relatives they tell me after the War Enfields where all over the place, and being used and adapted for all sorts of shooting roles.

Common enogh that people didn't write much down about them.

I'd be interested in learning more about these match rifles, and how they tweeked them to be more accurate. :D

FWIW, that band is not an Enfield specific part. It's just a British made hose clamp adapted to the purpose. You could get something similar at Home depot, burn the zinc off it with Muratic Acid and then blue it to replicate basically the same thing.

I have decided to make these little jems available to you chaps. I managed to find these pictures a few years ago and since Tudenom asked a question about proper sniper sling use I thought that I would post them here.

The black and white picture is an image of Queen Elizabeth prior to her ordainment. I do not understand why most GunNutz consider her to be anti-gun. She is obviously trained in the arts of marksmanship. I would cut off one my dog's testicles for that particular SMLE (sorry Ruger but I would). Note the extra barrel band. I have never seen this before aside from this image.

These images will be used later on my web site as I am devoting a section to marksmanship training and ballistics for CDN Rangers. We require more Queen's Medals within our ranks.

Enjoy.
Richard

Are these pics still available? If so, can you re-link to them please?

Easy to get a bit of history given the name and year on the rifle. Contact DCRA and they should be able to tell you something. This would have been a "target rifle" as I don't think these sight were legal for "service rifle" although I can look it up in some old rule books if anyone really wants to know. It looks like someone put the stickers on to identify it within their own collection.
