I am about to acquire a Yugo SKS 59/66.

I do not really care for magnification, so a 1x power scope is what I am after.

I noticed the PDTS132 ProPoint on the Tasco site, and it looks like a nice addition to the SKS. Does anyone have experience or an opinion as to whether to go Red Dot, ProPoint, or other???

Also, what would be the most recommended way to mount a short dot sight as the gun is in original factory configuration?

I have both. The Pro Point is definately the better of the two.

The Red Dots intensity changes when viewed from side to side. It's fine if you look dead centre, but as soon as you move the sight to the left the image seems to flare. Move it to the right and the dot starts to disappear. I wasn't very happy with the Red Dot but it works ok.

The Pro Point image seems to remain constant at all times. The elevations adjustments are nicer and more percise. It came with an extension tube that may make it easier for you to mount on your factory sight base and a polarized filter also.

Bushnell make a nice one now with four differant recticles pictures and the dot can be changed from red to green. The wife put one on her 22/45mk111 and she just loves it. I liked it also, so I put one on my 22/45mk111.

Use one of the scout style mounts that replaces the rear sight leaf with a rail.

I checked out the scout scope mounts. Surplusrifle.com has a complete step-by-step photo guide on how to instal one of these bases.

Marstar sells the scout mount for $99.

Thanks for the info.

Marstar's price is way too high for that mount though. It only costs $50 in the US. Plus you have to remove it when you clean the rifle.
