Proposed Changes to CGN

sorry if this is in the wrong section, mods feel free to move it.

1. PAL verification network, have PAL verified by 3 different members and have an indication of it somewhere on your profile along with expiry date. I am looking into going on a buying spree on the EE and dont feel safe giving out personal information to multiple people that I have never met, so by having it pre verified by a few members would help reduce the chances of anything happening. I'm sure others feel the same way, and it may become a hassle for some.

2. News page login screen-shows top 3-5 firearms stories of the day, any online polls in the media involving firearms that need a vote, and some threads from a few other sections.

3. Inbox and profile info displayed on home screen.

4.Maybe a picture of the day or something to give our eyes a break from writing everywhere..

I think these changes would help make CGN more effective towards the gun nut crowd. I work in a business field so these suggestions are coming from that background.

Feel free to add what you might want changed and maybe it will get seen

I have my own bulletin board, and what you are proposing will take a lot of time and effort of one or more individuals.

And for what purpose? To make it more attractive? Perhaps you are suggesting that CGN start charging for memberships in order to put out some more appealing content?

I am not poo-pooing the idea, but like I said, as a BB owner and sole administrator, I know exactly how much of my time and effort is taken up on this sort of thing.

So once verified how does one party know if the person buying has since had his PAL revoked? Who keeps track of that?

I catch the jist of your idea, kind of like being "pre-approved" or a preferred buyer perhaps, but there are more details that would need to be covered off for this to be fool proof. I see a lot of work for an admin that would probably prefer more trigger time over more keyboard time.

Idea 1. If you're buying restricted firearms you will have to give out your information no matter what for the transfer. There is no way around this.

If you're just looking into buying NR's then just buy from people willing to sell without keeping their own personal registries or doing verifications. Admittedly 96 posts and 0 trader rating in your case might force those who don't verify into a verification, but there's some really easy going members here that are of the "non verification, no personal info" camp.

I'm not trying (and really hope it doesn't turn into) to turn this into another "how to buy/sell non-restricted firearms" threads, but not everyone on here does verification so long as there's no reason for them to believe that you do not have a valid PAL.

Given that the Owner of the site has indicated a desire to upgrade/port the software from version 3.8.x to 4.2.x; its likely that anything suggested here would have to be a post-conversion activity. Likely late Q4 at the earliest.
