Got a 686 International that is getting delivered on Tuesday... I overpaid for it from Easthill Outdoors (check their listing for it), because it's so damn pretty, and it was the last revolver on the retail market it seemed.

I've got my selection of nice quality, reliable semi-autos, spare parts and whatnot, I'll be happy with keeping, but the revolver.. I just don't know. Owned a couple smiths, never shot them.

Do I keep it just to have one, knowing it cost a fair bit more than what it would have a year ago, or pass it on for cost paid on the EE on Tuesday once it's in hand...

The 686 is a great revolver in my opinion. Every collection needs at least 1 revolver. Just keep and enjoy it. Ok you may have overpaid but don't let that jade you against owning it.

I started with semi's and then got a revolver. like them, especially in the winter. much easier to keep your brass. the 686 is a nice one too...
I have a 50-50 split on them now.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Who knows how many years of shooting the semi autos, till you want something different. Just my 2 cents.

Why not keep the S&W revolver? I own both types and enjoy shooting both but prefer a revolver over a pistol.. I reload and no need to chase brass with a revolver and loading a revolver is much easier than loading pistol magazines. Just my preference.

I only own .22lr revolvers. They’re cheaper, ammo is orders of magnitude cheaper, and I still get to say I own wheel guns.

They’re also what I start people out with when taking new shooters for their first spin with a hand gun. Good for teaching basics and safety.

To keep or sell would depend on your financial situation, and maybe age . You can always make more money , but once the handgun ban goes through in the near future , handguns will be unobtainable/untransferable at any cost. On the other hand, if you have other expenses that are more important , and your budget is limited, then that is a consideration as well as you will never be allowed to sell/transfer the gun if you decide that you wanted to get rid of it. On the positive side , Trudeau's govt. appears to be on life support , and probably won't last much longer .

I don’t think I’ve ever come across anyone that changes firearms as often as you.

Borderline ridiculous now. I knew without reading the rest of the thread how it would end up.

“Decided to sell it, at the inflated price I paid “

Also a nice way to put it out there that you have it available for sale, without using an EE ad, as I bet you are near or at your limit.

Lol I'm sure that's your plan. You're funny.

I wouldn't want to be without a revolver, but have no interest in any of the modern "plastic fantastic" pistols. It's a matter of taste and everyone has to figure out what inspires them. Some oddballs would even rather go play golf, if you can believe that!

Interesting to see someone would get salty about this. Have I hurt your feelings somehow? You even came back to edit your post, and didn't take the anger out. Time to take up a new hobby if a thread like this makes your blood boil.

Yeah it's at the point where I've got enough nice ones to fill a Nanuk 935 and probably won't shoot more than a couple of them regularly. The revolver would be nice, but at almost $1800 it's going to mostly be a paperweight or something I pull out for show & tell. But I've made the conscious decision on several transactions over the summer to sell the ones I know I'll want to shoot, to friends or someone else local that I know well enough to go to the range with and get to still shoot them from time to time. Not like I'll never see it again, kinda thing.

Not having to buy magazines and chase brass after a shooting session is a very nice pro.

My ruger Single Six 4 5/8" with .22 Mag extra cylinder was my only revolver for decades. Before the pistol ban, I had considered buying a MR-73 with 4.25" barrel but waited too long when the ban was announced. I ended up checking out Prophet River and bought a 4.25" Colt Python and a brace of Stainless Taylor & Company Cattlemen in .357 magnum with 4.75 " barrels. I'm thinking of picking up a Dillon press to load up light loads to reduce wear and tear on these "final" revolvers.

If you bought it, it's not overpriced. I vote: Keep it. Not having bought a revolver is one of my regrets, but as it turns out any of the ones I've seen these days ARE overpriced.

You’re silly for not keeping it. Just my opinion. One day you may just regret that. Everyone should have one 38/357 revolver in their collection.

I just bought a revolver a couple weeks back - it arrived yesterday and it is beautiful! Had to buy a revolver as I could not find a 500SW semi auto! Range day as soon as registration arrives!!!
